Final Project

Painting Number One: So Tienna and I are working together to make our pictures. What i did first was that i wanted to use some blue for grants shirt. I am hoping that it will look nice since the consistency if very nice. I tried with the sponge first. It wasn't looking the best so i'm going to try a brush. It still isn't working very well. I need to see if there is a way to thin out the crayons. I just discovered that if if you wipe with lots of pressure with the sponge it works well. If you use a pencil eraser then it works well as a precision tool. I have just learned that if you want to smudge something you finger is an excellent tool. So for most of the time in this picture my favorite tool was my hand. I used the green in this photograph to make a tie. (If that's what it looks like) And blue for most of it so that that would symbolize the shirt. I chose orange because that would really stand out to the swampy combination i already had.

For my second one though i tried to melt some more of them in a papper plate but the plate was starting to burn. Also what is super weird is that certain colors melt easier then others. The brown color melted very easily. I think that since my crayons aren't working i will try to do pastels. I mean i've done Tienna's hair but i think it might look okay. So i started on pastels. I did the background which was a tan color. I smoothed it around and then added more so that it would be easier to see. Then after that i worked on doing Tienna's T-Shirt which is black. Now that i'm done wit that i am trying to do Tienna's skin. It is difficult. I think i'm going to try and mix a tan-like yellow and a brown and maybe some red. So it doesn't look as well as i hoped her face looks a little weird probably because of her face. After that i just used a little red and spread it around so that it might look a little better. I finished by coloring the couch on the left.

History of Photography

(Now i know this may not be good but i tried to get some things down on what happend.)

History of Photography

The first photograph was created in the 1820’s. The man who made it was named Nicéphore Niépce. He was a french man, born in 1765. The way he created the photograph was he used a camera obscura. People usually used the camera obscura for drawing purposes. At first the image would just disappear after a second or two but he figured it out. After he had made the image a man named Louis Jaques Mandé Daguerre who was an artist asked him about his creation. They became partners. Together they created the first camera, it was called the Daguerreotype. A problem with the Daguerreotype is that it had super long exposure times. You would have to stand still for  a long time if you wanted a clear image. In England there was a man called Henry Fox Talbot. In 1834 he created permanent images by using paper soaked in silver chloride and silver salt solution. Sadly they were “negative” images but he turned them into positive images by contact printing onto another piece of paper. In 1841 he dubbed his process “Calotype.”A man called Frederick Scott Archer who was as sculptor who lived in London at  at the time, improved the resolution of photographs. He did it by spreading a mixture of collodion and other chemicals on sheets of glass. His style of photography was much cheaper then the Daguerreotype. Also you could make unlimited reproductions of an image. The reason it could be reproduced was because of the positive and negative process. He did this in 1851.In 1861, ten years after Archer a scottish man named James Clerk-Maxwell demonstrated a color photography system which included three black and white photographs. Each one of them was taken through a filter of red, blue or green. He turned the images into lantern slides and then cast them against the wall in registration to the same color filters they used. It was called the color separation method. In 1888 the first Kodak camera was made. It contained a roll of paper that was twenty feet long! It was long enough for one-hundred 2.5 images. A year after this they improved the camera by putting in a roll of film instead of the paper. Finally in 1907 The Lumiere brothers made the first commercial color film. They assembled it in france. It seems that it would have been very popular. It is most likely true that they made a ton of money from that. What a big step in photography. Nippon Kogaku K.K., was formed in 1917. They would become the company Nikon. Nippon Kogaku K.K, was established in Tokyo. I wonder if Nippon Kogaku was the name of one of the partners? In 1924 Leitz a man who employed Oscar Barnack since he worked with microscopes created a slightly different camera then he did before when he worked with Barnack. And sold it and called it as the Leica. It was the first high quality thirty-five millimeter camera. But again it was only slightly different the the camera he had made before. Fuji photo film was founded in 1934. They started making film and lenses. Then in 1938 they were making camera’s additionally. That was a big step up.In 1963 Polaroid made the first colored instant film. Also Nikon made the first underwater Camera. They called it the Nikonos. It was first purpose built.Dark image editing was around for a long time since digital photography didn’t come until the around the 2000’s. Also the difference the difference between a computer and Dark image editing is that with the dark image enhancing or hold back certain parts of the image. Whereas in computer editing it is greatly exaggerating little details or adding special effects.

Response to Q's

Summarize. Well the KONY 2012 video is about a terrorist named Joseph Kony. The one problem with him is that no one knows who he is. What he does is that he takes children from the parents and forces them to be in his army. He makes them shoot their parents and then attack other villages. This video is about him and what we should do.
What do you think the specific goal of the filmmaker is? I think that the core idea is that he believes its wrong. Yet i believe that the thought that hit it home for him was that he didn’t wan’t the same thing happening to his son, Gavin. He saw what kids Gavin’s age were living through and he never wanted that to happen to his son. I think he hopes to arrest Kony so that al of this will be done. Perhaps every kid he saw over in Uganda when he went over there reminded him of Gavin.
What is your personal opinion? It think the strategy is a very clever idea. No one gets hurt and any person who hears about this guy will want to do something. People will get bored with all of the blog posts and video’s etc. etc. over time! But if they do keep on showing the subject over and over again it will stay in peoples heads. They will remember. And if they try to forget all over them they will have reminders. They may be reading a magazine and they will see the name Kony. They’re eyes may just be tricking them but that will trigger something in their heads. I think that one thing i might do different is that i would keep supplies in stock. People want to buy posters and such but when they say “No, we’re out.” Then they get a little discouraged. Every person wants to feel like they’re getting something back. If you donate you may not feel satisfied. You’ll probably ask “What’s in it for me.” Getting posters or a T-shirt might give them more of an urge.
What do you think about making a bad person a celebrity? I think that it is a great idea. Having him being on TIME magazine will definitely make awareness. They know that they can’t do much without the governments support. The way to keep our troops out there is if we show that the American people are still interested. If the people loose interest then the government will. Then the whole operation will be closed done except for those few people. But they still need the governments help.
What is the difference about raising awareness and being called to action?
I think that raising awareness is where you talk to people and say “Hey have you hear about this?” I believe that being called to action is doing something about it. To me that is what it seems that they are. Raising awareness is telling people about it and then being called to action is feeling a urge and doing something about it.
What is an issue that you feel strongly about? I think that this one may be the one that has really hit me. I just feel that it is a major problem. Where it is is basically where the L.R.A are. The people who are affected by them are wherever they are. They move. It seems to me that as they move everyone in their area is affected. People should care about this because... people are dying. They are being forced to do terrible things. What we need to ask is, “What if that was me?” Then people will care. People will look at their family’s and friends and wonder “What if that was them?” I think that what we can do to help is that we can donate to the company as well as sending mail to the government. Letting them know that the people are still interested. Also what they can do is on April 20th is to go out with posters and such and just slam their entire city with the things. If we did that we would get a lot of peoples attention. If we plastered downtown Portland every business man would see it. Also the media would have a story on it as well. If we just put out a whole bunch of posters we would definitely spread the word.

Sermon draft (Just in case)

Sermon Rough draft
Caeden Brusett
So in class we had to pick two topic’s. We had made a selection. Mine were Logic/Thinking and Family. So I was going to do a sermon piece with those two topics. And that is what i’m doing right now.
Let’s start with thinking and logic. Ways god comes in with my thoughts is that he’s my conscience. He’s there and say’s “Now think about this, its your choice but would this be the best one?” With whatever choice I am doing. He’s always there. I think of him to be some huge security guard sometimes, when i’m scared. A guy who take on anybody.
With family i think he is in the part of my mind that is in self-control. When i’m really mad he will say “Pause, think.” Same as with my conscience he just makes me slow down so that I don’t speak angrily to someone I love. My mom for example. When i’m annoyed and my mom is chatting that is an example of a situation. I think that he also helps us be running well together. When we have arguments they usually end pretty quickly and then we can just continue with our lives.

No as you guys can see for most of the photos they have me in it. That is because my brother wasn't going to be in a picture. I also thought I would be looking the images on the internet but I improvised.

Article do's and dont's

Okay so after reading that article I have recognized that I have done a couple of those subjects. It may have been only one since for the other i'm not completely sure I did. But I know for a fact that on the project last week I took out every blemish on her skin. Her skin did look pretty fake. I also might have made her eyes pretty strong. I will have to check my photos to see what I did well. This article makes a lot of sense to me. It seems like common sense stuff, that is probably why its so easy to do them...

Before and After

Comment on Video and blog

In this video I learned how to take away blemishes in pixelmator, the stamp tool! I didn't know that that was the way to get blemishes removed, you copy part of the persons face and then stamp over the blemish! I also learned more about the lasso tool, I know it's sad but I still didn't know that much about how to work it. I learned more in general just how to edit an image.

Photos and how I think it turned out...

This photo was backlight, i was thinking of having a very dark Grant next to a light. Maybe with some snow to add in. I chose this one because it was the darkest and Grant really did look like a silhouette. I think it turned out pretty good, considering I was at his house and I only had my Ipod.

In this photo I did posing. I wanted to have him to have growth in the photo but to still have him be the center of attention. I wish I had had a wider lens so that I could include more plants in the image. I think this picture turned out fine. It would have been better had I had a wider lens.

This one I am particularly proud of. I really love the candle igniting his face in a yellow glow. In the editing process I did give it more yellow so that the candle would have more effect. I would think this one turned out good, on a scale on 1-10 I would give it a 7 or a 8.

This one was ment to be serious, I was telling Grant to pretend that you lost the war and all of your friends died just to make him stop smiling. In the editing process I sharpened it and I edited the composition. I think this photo is okay. It isn't amazing but I don't think it stinks.

Summary

I liked how brief they made the comments beneath the picture, I learned from it but didn't have to slog through. I learned that shadows can be really helpful or become the picture instead of the person who throws the shadow. I learned that having a part of a picture unfocused can make it seem more mysterious since you can't see the person in the picture very well. I don't think I can do certain techniques from the article because some of them are blurred.

I learned that when you underexpose you look to the lighter parts of the image so that will be helpful when you want the audience to look at certain parts of the image. It makes sense to me that you would use props to enhance the image. I if you had props you could really create a amazing image. It makes sense to me that you would have some serious photos to go along with your smiling ones. It would seem fake if you had a photo gallery and you were trying to show a town's culture and everyone in the photos was smiling. Normally there are some people who are having a bad day. (Or just more serious)

Before and After + Paragraph

I have a question about the editing process, is there a actual process? Or is it just edit using the tools on that list? I think this made me more familiar with what I should do when I edit. Just to get more practice was nice. I learned that really changing the Levels a little but could change the picture.

Second article

Man! Now I feel like I don't know that much about photography at all! I think its cool though how you can use lines to really change your image. But I do think that making everything in the photo balanced makes sense. So that it doesn't feel off-center. I do understand that if you really want someone to focus on the image change the aperture or just be super super close. I do have a question, what is the rule of thirds?

I know its some kind of guidelines which if your follow them you can take better photos. Also for this one I really appreciated the the photos that would help me get an idea of what they're talking about. To me actually seeing what they are talking about help me. Thanks jonny for assigning this! It went into depth on things that will help me in the future!

First article

Well for one, I liked the words the guy used. He spoke in words I actually understood and he didn't go all wordy and it just made sense. I think it was cool how he could show a stranger how to use his camera better in just 15 minutes! I understood what he was talking about because we had already talked about it in class but he really showed examples. The pictures he used really did have a big difference because of the f # and I think the pictures showed really well how it could change the photo.

To me I like how he gives reasons why you should do what he's talking about. Whether it will make things blurred so that you focus more on  the one thing your supposed to focus on or wether it will just make the picture look better, his reasons made sense. I think its awesome how he told that guy that much in such little time. I don't think I could do that. (But that may just be because I don't know that much)
